MAMA LU: Goddess, Witch, Poetess, 2022-2023, Lu Wei Solo Exhibition, S7 Art Museum, Taipei, Taiwan
Wei uses Chinese ink painting as her major medium in portraying the female figure, reflecting on the relationship and connection between the human body and nature. Wei tries to experiment using different media (ie. curtains, silk, greige etc) to recreate space for female characters. Her creations tend to reflect and fill in the missing gaps of self-consciousness for female artists in Chinese Art History. As female bodies were often objectified in traditional Chinese Ink Painting, the artist attempted to create a whole new conscious body using this traditional medium. She tries to break the boundaries and restrictions for female characters in traditional Chinese ink painting, creating a body that belongs to the modern time.
